To Radical Edward

In silence now, once more alone
a turned key locks the door
to old memories and pleasantries
that form tomorrow’s sacred lore
The dimming lights reflecting on
the choice to stay behind –
every now and then, scenes play again
to justify them in my mind
These three-minute philosophers
too self-important to explain –
it is still unclear why we are here
and why a few choose to remain
The sprinkler system mimics rain
once everyone has gone –
what does it mean, this subtle scene,
and why am I the broken one?
The lights are out, the doors are locked
only one thing is clear –
when all is new, though without you,
the world will find me waiting here.
