To Jay Eberlin
I must admit I have not seen
the mountain ledge in years
nor have you come to visit me
to share our common fears
I would ask how you have been
and hope that you are well
victorious in the battles fought
in a mind where demons dwell
With seventeen so far behind
I fear I can’t relate
I haven’t kept up with the music
and I can barely skate
Sometimes you haunt me, kindred friend
yet I cannot set you free
from the heartbreak and the pain
of your cherished misery
It never did occur to me
that you and I are cursed
for everything that you have penned
are words I’ve written first.
